Officers hope Madawaska app promotes financial progress and tourism

MADAWASKA, Maine (WAGM) –

Madawaska officials hope a new phone app will fuel economic growth and improve community service. Kathy McCarty has more.

As part of the strategic plan for the city of Madawaska, officials have created an app designed to promote tourism and more.

“There is information about what is happening, both from the city government and in the city – and it helps us too. So it’s an economic tool and also an information tool that helps the government deliver information better, ”says Gary Picard, Madawaska City Administrator.

Madawaska is a tourist destination that is one of the stops on the Four Corners of the USA tour.

“We have analytics to see who is downloading these apps, and there are people across the country who actually downloaded the app after it went live. And I mean, if you’re from New Hampshire and would like to get here by snowmobile and want to know what’s going on, the tourism section of the app is the place to find out exactly what’s going on in Madawaska. It shows you what’s available, what to do, you know what specials are happening. And it enables companies to interact directly with these people without having to resort to other means, ”said Jason Boucher, Madawaska Selectman and app developer.

The app also enables direct interaction with local authorities such as Code Enforcement and the Rec department.

“At the moment we’re open from 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. on a typical working day. So you need to come in and register your kids for all of these programs. If you have the app, you can register. And we’re working on implementing payment functions, ”said Sam Cyr, director of the Madawaska Parks and Rec Department.

In addition to tourism, the app functions include fire brigade, police, school, public works, a suggestion box and much more. Notifications such as road closures and cancellations can also be published. The app can be found by searching for Madawaska in the Google Play or Apple App Store.
