The City of Norwich is launching a new program aimed at revitalizing local businesses and driving tourism to the area.

Passport to Norwich offers people ideas and incentives to explore the city. People are invited to take a free passport brochure, pick a destination to explore, and choose a participating restaurant to eat at. Spend $ 10 at any of the restaurants and they’ll get a stamp. With 20 passport stamps, you can compete for a $ 250 gift card.

“It really is a way of bringing tourists and residents here to Norwich,” said Regan Miner of the Norwich Historical Society. “Our goal is to promote cultural heritage tourism and also the economic development in the city.”

Each brochure also includes information on the Walk Norwich Trails and other tourist destinations. The city hopes the passport program will help people discover local businesses while exploring the city’s history and scenery.

“I think it’s a great time. We have so much energy in the city right now, ”said Angela Adams, director of the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce.

Uncle D’s Blazin ‘BBQ is one of more than 50 participating restaurants.

“We hope it will bring new people to the area and bring the business back to pre-COVID level,” said Angelina Gardner, owner of Uncle D’s Blazin ‘BBQ.

Norwich has received a grant from the Eastern Regional Tourism District and sponsorship from US Foods to fund the program. There are $ 10,000 worth of coupons.

A full list of participating restaurants can be found here.

Passports can be collected from restaurants, the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce, Norwich City Hall or Foundry 66. A maximum of three stamps are allowed in one place.
