Ripon College’s Red Hawk women’s basketball team took the lead early Saturday afternoon last week, taking home a 72:53 home win over the Lake Forest Foresters.

Ripon led 20-10 after a quarter and 33-17 at halftime on the way to a 19-point win.

The Red Hawks, who defeated Lake Forest 91-53 on the road a week earlier, deflected 48% of their shots (13 of 27) from the field in the first half, including 57% (8 of 14) in the first quarter.

For the first half, they kept Lake Forest 22% (5 of 22) off the field, forcing the Foresters to make 16 of their 24 sales in the first 20 minutes.

The second half was a bit more competitive when Ripon only defeated the Foresters 19:16 in the third quarter and played against a 17-point tie in the fourth.

It led by just over a minute after the fourth by 26 points before being beaten by seven points to end the game.

Ripon’s hot shooting continued into the second half as it converted 51.6% of its shots (16 of 31) in the final 20 minutes.

It struggled with sales, however, as it recorded 17 of its 30 sales for the game at that stretch. The Red Hawks were outperformed on points ranging from 26 to 20 for the game.

Lake Forest also made more shots in the second half when he shot 43% (13 of 30) off the field.

The Red Hawks were led by an even attack as five players scored nine or more points and 11 out of 15 scored at least one field goal.

Bonnie Jensen and Kiana Falls led Ripon with 13 and 12 points respectively, while Alison Leslie, Megan Dille and Skyylar Bresica added nine points each.

Ripon will end its COVID-19 shortened competitive season on Saturday when it travels to Lake Forest for the third and final game.
