MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Tourism mourned Christine Ann Ibarreta, President of Hotel Sales and Marketing International, Inc, who passed away last Friday.

Affectionately known as Tin Ann or CUI in the travel and hospitality industry, Ibarreta died at 2:07 p.m. last Friday after her two-month health battle when she tested positive for COVID-19.

She was elected President of the HSMA hotel group for two consecutive terms from 2017 and is also a former board member of the Tourism Congress of the Philippines.

The DOT described Ibarreta as a “pillar” in the travel and hospitality industry.

“She will be remembered because she has always been at the forefront of helping the DOT and other tourism stakeholders. Your invaluable efforts to support the DOT and the industry will never be forgotten, ”said the DOT.

The TCP, however, remembered Ibarreta as “a tireless worker and fighter for industry”.

“She was a valued member of the TCP board of directors and has contributed to a number of our initiatives. More importantly, she was a friend to all of us, ”said the TCP.

“Thank you for your contribution to the industry, Ms. Christine! We will miss you, ”he added.

The Philippine Travel Agencies Association also thanked Ibarreta for their contribution to the industry affected by the pandemic.

Ibarreta’s hotel group, HSMA, which has launched various fundraising drives for their medical needs, also paid tribute to their leader.

It paid tribute to Ibarreta for “helping the pandemic-ridden hospitality industry to stay active and afloat for the past 16 months”.

“She was an energetic frontrunner in tourism and ran the organization with dedication and remarkably well. She may be physically gone, but because of her talent, drive and passion, she will stay in the hearts of colleagues, friends and professionals in the tourism scene, ”said HSMA.

“Rest well, dear Tin Anne, and seek your well-deserved eternal reward from the Almighty Lord,” she added.
