PANAMA CITY Fla. (WMBB) – You may remember Panama City talking about Viking Cruises stopping in our area, but now those plans are on hold.

Test drives along the Gulf Coast should begin in March – for those who have been vaccinated.

The ship wanted to dock in St. Andrews Bay to give passengers the opportunity to go ashore and explore our historic areas.

Alex King, executive director of the Panama City Port Authority, said he was optimistic that the partnership would come about in the future.

“I think if Viking Cruises decided to make Panama City a focal point, I think it would have a positive impact on the community and we would appreciate the opportunity to welcome Viking Cruises here to Panama City”, said King.

King said there is no timeline for when this plan could get back on track, but he said the Viking Cruise line is keeping in touch and hoping for good updates in the future.
