Los Angeles (CBSLA) – Princess Cruises will launch its first cruise ship since the pandemic began from the port of Los Angeles on Saturday. The 951-foot Grand Princess will set sail for a five-day trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

All passengers must provide proof of vaccination and negative COVID-19 test results prior to boarding.

Port officials said every time a cruise ship arrives it brings in more than $ 1 million to local restaurants, hotels and businesses.

Locals said the proceeds were needed to help both businesses and employees offset some of their financial losses incurred during the pandemic.

“I think it’s important to have an economic impact now,” said Jesselyn Moreno, a San Pedro resident. “I mean, we’ve come from so much: local businesses are going under. San Pedro may be a tourist spot because of the cruises, but at the same time no money comes in if no one comes in. “
