A message from the Ministry of Heritage, Sports, Tourism and Culture

The Ontario government is making one-time payments of $ 10,000-20,000 to support eligible small tourism and travel businesses that are struggling to escape the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic caused by the new $ 100 million Recover Dollar Grant for Tourism and Small Business in Ontario.

The launch of the program was announced on May 13th by Lisa MacLeod, Minister for Heritage, Sports, Tourism and Culture.

“Prior to the pandemic, Ontario tourism generated more than $ 36 billion in economic activity and created more than 400,000 jobs across the province,” MacLeod said. “Our government is working with small businesses to meet the challenges of last year – through programs like the Ontario Tourism and Travel Small Business Support Grant – and to help the tourism industry regain its place as an economic powerhouse and important job creator in our province . ”

A total of 141,000 jobs were lost in the tourism industry between February 2020 and April 2021.

This grant supports eligible small tourism and travel businesses that have not received the Ontario Small Business Support Grant (OSBSG), such as: B. Travel agencies, hotels, motels, resorts and bed & breakfasts. To qualify, companies must have fewer than 100 employees and demonstrate that they experienced a decline in sales of at least 20 percent between 2019 and 2020.

As announced in the 2021 budget, Ontario will invest more than $ 400 million in new initiatives over the next three years to support the tourism, hospitality, culture, sports and leisure sectors. This builds on previously announced investments of $ 225 million and brings total support for these sectors to more than $ 625 million since the pandemic began.
