Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., calls for responses from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after reports that hundreds of migrants are staying in hotels in states like Arizona.

“I am appalled that illegal foreigners are staying in American hotels. Illegal foreigners should be detained [ICE] Detention facilities, not hotels, “Biggs said in a letter to incumbent ICE director Tae Johnson.

The Washington auditor first reported that ICE has acquired seven hotels, including Chandler, Arizona, to accommodate migrant families released from Border Patrol custody. It is not clear whether these families will be removed or admitted to the US

The auditor reported that 600 people were accommodated in hotels in El Paso, Texas and Chandler. A further 600 beds will be made available in Pecos (Texas) as well as Phoenix (Arizona) and Cotulla (Texas) in the coming weeks.

Fox previously reported that the Biden ICE government has placed a $ 86.9 million contract for hotel rooms near the border to provide emergency shelter and processing services to families who have not been deported from the United States but are on immigration due to their removal got involved.

Biggs blamed the Democrats in Congress for the border situation, with migrant families being released inland and migrant facilities packed in a dramatic increase in numbers.

“Unfortunately, Democrats in Congress have repeatedly struggled to cap funding for ICE detention beds instead of providing ICE with the legally mandated resources to detain foreigners, and even called for the complete abolition of ICE,” he said. “They don’t want our immigration laws to be enforced and they know that aliens who are not incarcerated will most likely never be removed – which is their ultimate goal.”

Biggs asks how many empty beds are available in ICE detention centers, how much is being spent on housing migrants, how many are being housed, and if they are getting background checks.

He also asks if they will be COVID tested, if they will be released and how long they will stay in the hotels.
