New Delhi: Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel said Tuesday the center had initiated a study to quantify the sector’s quantum losses due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a written response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Patel said the ministry did not keep the record of tourism revenue.

The Ministry of Tourism commissioned the National Council on Applied Economic Research in January to conduct a study on “India and the coronavirus pandemic: economic losses for households involved in tourism and measures to take to recover,” Patel said.

One of the objectives of this study is to quantify the sectoral and general loss of income from the economy and household sectors, as well as job losses due to the impact of the pandemic on the tourism sector, Patel said.
