The tourism sector in Switzerland has found a new ally in tennis superstar Roger Federer.

In a press release last week, the Swiss Tourism Authority Switzerland Tourism (ST) announced that the 20-time Grand Slam winner has come on board to become the official brand ambassador for Switzerland.

The development comes at a time when Switzerland is weaving its way through the blow against tourism due to the health pandemic, which it regards as the “greatest tourism crisis since the Second World War”.

ST officials said Mr Federer’s involvement will go a long way in their advance as the tennis superstar is a good representation of the country after years of flying the Swiss flag in his legendary career.

“This fits together perfectly as Switzerland and its pristine nature have clearly contributed to Roger’s unparalleled career,” said Martin Nydegger, Chief Executive Officer of ST.

Mr Federer agreed and said: “I always have the feeling that I represent Switzerland when I step into the yard. Whenever my name is on it, there is a Swiss flag next to it. I was very proud to do that for the first 22 years that I toured, and it always will be. Merging with ST now is a logical step for me. “

The partnership between ST and Mr. Federer is based on “winning guests with their energizing character for a visit to Switzerland” and encouraging the latter to promote Switzerland worldwide.

In April, communication activities will focus on European cities, followed by the USA and the Asia-Pacific region.

A series of pictures and short clips show how Mr. Federer is enthusiastic about the Swiss nature.

“I’ve been all over the world. Switzerland has always been my favorite place. It is the country that I miss the most when I travel, ”said Federer.

In a release last year, the German market and consumer data company Statista said that travel restrictions and economic shutdowns in 2020 would have led to falling revenues for travel accommodations across Switzerland, which will hopefully contain and address the country.

Mr Federer said he was committed to the partnership and looked forward to doing his part.

As part of the partnership, ST also supports the Roger Federer Foundation, which supports disadvantaged children in Switzerland. – Michael Angelo S. Murillo
