Former Balangir MP Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo has asked Prime Minister Naveen Patnaik to sanction Rs 100 crore for the development of tourism infrastructure in Balangir district.

In a recent letter to the Prime Minister, Singh Deo pointed out that Balangir has historically been an important center for arts, crafts and culture in western Odisha, but the district has traditionally been neglected. Despite the enormous potential for tourism, a lack of resources and concentration hampered the growth of the tourism sector, said Singh Deo, lamenting that the number of visitors to Balangir District has declined over the years.

World class tourist attractions like Harishankar and Ranipur Jharial in Balangir have not reached their full potential.

One of the state’s oldest runways in Tusura has been removed from the UDAAN program. The Koshal Kalamandal, a 10 hectare field made available by RN Singh Deo to promote cultural activities in Balangir and to the west of Odisha, is currently neglected, said Singh Deo. He asked for Rs 20 to build a cable car project between Harishankar and Nrusinghnath proposed in WODC in 2018, Rs 10 crore for infrastructure and sound light show in Ranipur Jharial along with a museum, Rs 15 crore for a multi-purpose auditorium and amphitheater in Koshal Kalamandal, Rs 15 crore to increase runway length and create infrastructure to accommodate larger aircraft so that Tusura can enter UDAAN Phase II / III and Rs 10 crore for other tourist attractions in the district to create a tourist circuit.
