HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) – Last year, the pandemic forced many to stay home, restricting travel in the United States. Hotels were among many companies directly affected by this change.

Normal business and leisure trips were hardly available, so that fewer hotel rooms were booked. Fortunately, things are slowly returning to normal.

More and more people are taking to the streets and are therefore booking hotel rooms. In Huntington, Mike Shockley, Delta Marriott Hotel’s sales director, says they’ve seen a good increase in the past few months.

Business registrations have come back. Many companies have lifted their travel restrictions, so more and more of these bookings are coming in.

Shockley also says that with the removal of the mask mandate and more vaccinations, people’s comfort zones have expanded and travel is no longer seen as a risk.

Hotels and travelers out of state during COVID-19

Bill Bissett, President and CEO of the Huntington Regional Chamber, says there is a lot of excitement right now as we step into this post-pandemic chapter.

If you look at the people who go on vacation, in or out of the state, everything is full everywhere. We have been locked up for a year and want to get back to normal.
