Seton Catholic sophomore distance runner Alexis Leone added another state title to her collection. This one on the track.

Leone won the 1,600 meters on Thursday with a time of 5 minutes, 6 seconds at the 1A state meet at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.

She won by nearly 41/2 seconds over second place finisher Kayla Aalpoel of Meridian.

In the fall, Leone won the 1A state cross country title as Seton Catholic also claimed the team title.

Two others from that champion Seton team were also on the track in the 1,600 with Leone. Lara Carrion finished in the top 10 by placing sixth in 5:16.39. And Avery Garrison was 15th in 5:33.67.

Leone isn’t done yet. She has the fastest entry time in the 3,200 with Aalpoel No. 2. That final is Saturday afternoon.

And finishing off the meet Saturday, Leone is among Seton’s five entrants for the 1,600 relay.

In other results at Cheney:

  • La Center’s Joseph Blanshan placed fourth in the boys 1A 1,600 with a time of 4:20.5.
  • Castle Rock had two top-10 placers in the 1A girls high jump. Paige Kessler was third at 5-0, and Brooke Wirkkala was sixth, also with a 5-0 mark.
  • In the preliminary heats of the 1A girls 100, La Center’s Shaela Bradley posted the second-fastest time of 12.73 seconds. Hannah Polkinghom of Columbia-White Salmon was seventh-fastest in 12.85 to also qualify for Saturday’s final.
