SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) – It’s spring vacation time for many families, both in Tennessee and outside of the state.

Governor Bill Lee recently posted an invitation on Twitter to encourage people to come to the state amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

WATE 6 On Your Side was out and about in Sevier County on Sunday and saw many people in the area saying they were making their way to East Tennessee because there is something to do both inside and outside.

“That’s why we came here, because even when everything was shut down, we could explore nature and go to the national parks, and regardless of whether everything was open or shut down, we could still do things with the kids outdoors,” said Amanda Smith, who is visiting the area from Florida.

The announcement of the reopening of Dollywood also resulted in more people visiting the area that weekend.
