Siverado had an odd week with his opponent switching three days before his Class 4A quarterfinal match.

Desert League champion Skyhawks was due to face Clark, but the Chargers were removed from the playoffs after it was discovered they had put in two ineligible players. With that, Spring Valley, who lost to Clark last week, returned to the playoffs.

Silverado didn’t seem concerned. Caden Harris and Marcus Council each ran for two touchdowns, and the undefeated Skyhawks drove to a 51-0 home win on Friday night.

Brandon Tunnell threw for 150 yards and a touchdown on Donavyn Pellot, who also ran on a score for Silverado (10-0). Michael Green returned an interception for a result to help the Skyhawks into the semi-finals, where they’ll host Coronado next Friday at 6pm. Spring Valley finished 4-6.

Las Vegas 27, Sierra Vista 8 – In Las Vegas, freshman Elijah Espinoza threw two touchdown passes to lift Las Vegas to its first playoff win since 2014.

Mountain League champion Wildcats (7-3) was 8-7 behind at halftime and finally took the lead in a touchdown run by Adonis Jackson in the fourth quarter. Espinoza’s goals went to Alvaro Zetino and Andrew Bowen, and receiver Tommy Vibabul put the final score on the board when a teammate fumbled into the end zone and fell on it.

Las Vegas will host the Shadow Ridge State semi-finals this coming Friday at 6 p.m. Sierra Vista overcame a 0-6 start to advance to the state quarter-finals, finishing 4-8.

Semi-finals of class 3A region south

Moapa Valley 49, SLAM Nevada 14 – In the Moapa Valley, Landon Wrzesinski ran 226 yards and three touchdowns to help the Pirates stay undefeated.

Moapa Valley (10-0) scored twice in the first two minutes and never looked back. Austin Heiselbetz ran for two touchdowns, Ethan Stankosky ran for one and Peyton Neilson and Elias Cox scored for a score.

Josephy Kuykendall threw for 103 yards and a touchdown and ran for a score for SLAM Nevada (8-4). But Kuykendall was picked up three times in the defeat.

Moapa Valley will host the winner of the Saturday game between North Valleys and Churchill Counties in the state’s semi-finals this coming Saturday at 1pm.

Virgin Valley 35, Pahrump Valley 0 – In the Pahrump Valley, Gavin Brown threw for three touchdowns and ran for two, and defense did the rest in a Bulldog win.

Brown was over 14v17 for 215 yards and had 30 yards for Virgin Valley (9-2), who will travel north to meet Elko in the semifinals next week at 1pm on Saturday. Alexander Valley had three of the Bulldogs’ five sacks, and Virgin Valley forced three turnovers. Pahrump Valley overcame a 0-3 start to win the Mountain League title and finished 4-4.

Virgin Valley will face Elko in the state semi-finals next Saturday at 1pm.

Class 2A quarter-finals

The Meadows 30, Lincoln County 0 – At The Meadows, Gage Rinetti ran for two touchdowns, and the Mustangs reached the state semifinals.

Derek Bain ran for a touchdown, and Sean Gosse scored with John McGill for a score for the Mustangs (10-1), who won convincingly despite only having a 194-174 lead on the offensive. The Meadows drew three turnovers from Lincoln County (5-6), the 2019 runner-up.

The Meadows will play in the semi-finals Battle Mountain next Saturday. The time has yet to be determined.

Class 1A quarter-finals

Pahranagat Valley 56, Well 8 – In the Pahranagat Valley, Jaren Leavitt scored two dazzling touchdowns and a reception in the first nine minutes, and the Panthers had an easy win.

Gage Davis and Braiden Maxwell each threw two touchdown passes to Pahranagat Valley (8-1), who await the winner between Virginia City and GV Christian on Saturday in the state semi-finals next week.
