Both countries are also discussing reopening travel via the Causeway and Second Link, taking into account the public health situation in Singapore and Johor.

Singapore and Malaysia will set up a Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) between Changi Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport from November 29, 2021 (Monday).

This came after a phone call between Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Malaysia’s Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob on November 8th (Monday).

In a joint statement under this VTL, the Prime Ministers said that fully vaccinated individuals can travel between Malaysia and Singapore and undergo COVID-19 tests instead of quarantine or stay-home notification.

In one Facebook post, Prime Minister Lee said: “Singapore and Malaysia have made good progress in vaccinating our populations and managing the pandemic. So we agreed that the time has come to gradually resume cross-border travel between the two countries. This will help revitalize our economies and restore people – human bonds and strengthen our bilateral partnership “

The leaders are also discussing reopening travel on the Causeway and Second Link, he added. “We look forward to launching a similar VTL program between Singapore and Johor in the near future,” taking into account the public health situation in both areas.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri called this step “another important milestone in the longstanding cooperation between Malaysia and Singapore”.

He added, “I look forward to the effective implementation of this travel program, which will complement those already developed to facilitate the movement of people and goods between Malaysia and Singapore.”

According to Singapore SafeTravel website, Vaccinated Passport (VTP) applications for short-term visitors and long-term passport holders will begin on November 22, 2021; Returning Singapore citizens and Singapore permanent residents who are fully vaccinated are not required to apply.

Further details will be announced shortly.
