Members of the National Park Service, with the help of many volunteers, are working on further excavations of the basement of the Mammoth Cave Hotel, built in 1925 and demolished in 1977, as well as the remains of the original hotel, which burned down in 1916, on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, next to the current location of the lodge in the Mammoth Cave. The aim of the three-week project is to uncover, document and preserve artifacts, structures and other features of the former hotels for the curatorium and museum collection and to clear the way for a new road construction project in the park.
