A California-based company announced the purchase of the 138-room Hilo Seaside Hotel.

With a vision of holistic hospitality, Soul Community Planet (SCP) plans to undertake renovations worth $ 4.6 million and reopen as SCP Hotel Hilo on June 1, 2021.

The 2.23 hectare oceanfront property was founded in 1956 by the Hawaiian tourist visionary Richard Kimi and was continuously operated by the Kimi family until this acquisition. Under family management, the Hilo Seaside Hotel cultivated a deep spirit of aloha and became known as a place where island hospitality is at the forefront of ancient Hawaiian culture.

“The hotel is a perfect new home from which to build on Soul Community Planet’s approach to holistic hospitality, continue the Kimi family’s commitment to the local community, and support SCP’s focus on sustainability and the environment,” said Soul Community Planet CEO and Co-Founder Ken Crus.

The Kimi family is delighted that SCP will take over the management of the hotel.

“This acquisition continues the vision for Hawaiian tourism that our family began more than 70 years ago,” said the Kimi family. “As we welcome our new friends to the Big Island, we are also very grateful for our own ohana. Your hard work and dedication to our team over the years will never be forgotten. “

SCP also announced that it will continue the Kimi family legacy with Breeani Sumera-Lee – a fourth generation member of the Kimi family – as general manager.

“SCP already embodies the aloha spirit for which the Hilo Seaside Hotel is known,” said Sumera-Lee. “We look forward to combining the SCP values of healthy, friendly and green with the deep roots of our own culture and offering our guests authentic and genuine Hawaiian experiences. Combined with Soul Community Planet’s commitment to regenerative tourism – leaving a place better than we found it – I am confident that our guests will more deeply respect and appreciate the spirit and culture of the Hawaiian Islands. “

In addition to the recently completed renovations to the open-air lobby, pool, pool deck and other public areas of the hotel, SCP’s planned $ 4.6 million renovation includes guest room and bathroom updates, the introduction of several new suites as well as the addition of SCP’s signature Peaceful Rooms. There are also plans to add an SCP commission market, which will offer healthy, plant-oriented, fresh, immune-boosting foods and beverages from the region. In line with the company’s commitment to improving sustainability, a full solar system and charging stations for electric vehicles will also be added.
