BOONE – Chase Brice ran for one touchdown and passed for another to lead Appalachian State to a 44-10 win over FCS foe Elon in the state on Saturday.

Brice opened the scoring with a 47 yard hookup with Malik Williams to open the scoring and his 1 yard fall early in the third quarter pushed the lead to 20-3.

Camerun Peoples had two touchdown runs in the second half, Anderson Castle added one in the closing minute and Chandler Stanton kicked his third field goal as the Mountaineers pulled away (2-1).

Appalachian State finished offensive at 528 yards, with Brice completing 19 of 25 passes for 293 yards.

Duke holds Northwestern 30-23. away

DURHAM (AP) – Duke scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and scored all of his goals in the first half, then made a Northwestern comeback to take a 30-23 win.

The Blue Devils were efficient on both sides of the ball early on, scoring six of their first eight possession behind Gunnar Holmberg, who completed 31 of 44 passes for a career-high 314 yards and a touchdown. And the defense forced Northwestern to punt or turn over the first seven drives.

The Wildcats (1-2) scored a goal late in the second quarter after a change at the quarterback. Starter Hunter Johnson threw three interceptions and was replaced by Andrew Marty, who orchestrated a fast scoring drive that covered 75 yards in just six games. Carter constructed three touchdown drives in the first quarter to give the Spartans a 21-0 lead and scored after Kevin Caldwell threw a 71-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Joyner to get the Vikings on the board Norfolk four more touchdowns to take a 49-7 lead after three quarters.

Campbell 72, Presbyterian 0: Wiley Hartley threw six touchdown passes, Campbell forced a program record of 10 turnovers, and the Camels beat Presbyterian 72-0. Hartley was 22 of 30 for 342 yards.

Collier’s 2 TDs in the fourth quarter will cap NC Central’s comeback
DURHAM (AP) – Latrell Collier rushed to two touchdowns in the fourth quarter as North Carolina Central rallied to beat Division II Winston-Salem State 20-13 in a Saturday night comeback to 10,918 in his first home game in 672 days.

Collier burst from the 2 over the left side and scored the game winner with 1:41 on the clock. NC Central held Winston-Salem without a first down and took the downs with less than a minute to go.

Four seconds into the fourth quarter, Collier had run across the middle of the one to get the score at 13-13.

Winston-Salem had taken the lead 13-6 in the closing stages with two field goals from Jobanni Esparza and a 19-yard touchdown pass from Cameron Lewis to Antjuan Collins.

The Eagles’ previous home game was against SC State on November 16, 2019.

Grainger leads Georgia State to a 20-9 win over Charlotte

ATLANTA (AP) – Darren Grainger only made six passes, but two of them went for touchdowns – including a 34-yard start against Ja’Cyais Credle in the third quarter – to help Georgia state Charlotte 20-9 in non-conference play back turning back.

Charlotte took a 7-0 lead in the middle of the second quarter when Chris Reynolds scored a shot on goal from 36 yards against Elijah Spencer. Tucker Gregg ran 76 yards on 22 carries, Williams carried seven times for 73, and Grainger added 64 yards on 16 dead as the Panthers piled 298 of their total of 437 yards on the ground.

Reynolds completed 13 of 28 passes for 158 yards for Charlotte. The 49ers were kept at 276 yards of attack.
