BARRIE, ONT – The city of Penetanguishene partnered with the Southern Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce this summer to support local businesses.

The city is heavily dependent on tourism in the summer and the initiative benefits the community after a difficult year.

“It’s been a really devastating 15 months for our business world,” said Anita Dubeau, Penetanguishene mayor. “Whatever we can do to support them, offer them promotions, we will do.”

A field office is operated from Penetanguishene Town Dock, the Tourist Information Center (TIC).

“We haven’t had a physical presence in Penetanguishene for over 20 years,” said Cathy Tait, Chamber General Manager.

Tait says a full-time office during the summer will allow them to promote their members and the city’s tourist assets.

Full-time staff distribute marketing materials, give directions, and point of interest to tourists visiting the area.
