LEE COUNTY

One woman got fed up with the vaccine reservation system in southwest Florida and traveled hundreds of kilometers to get the shot.

Betty Rahm, Cherie McArthur and their husbands took a road trip across the state Tuesday to get their first doses of COVID-19.

“I just want things to get back to normal,” said Rahm.

“I wanted to do it,” said McArthur. “I wanted to be able to enjoy a part of my life again.”

The former Ohio residents booked their appointments at the Cleveland Clinic, where they are patients. This was the decision they made together after many failed attempts to schedule appointments in Lee County.

“It was so frustrating because you hung up. You would vote again; You would be busy; You would vote again, ”said McArthur.

Donna Lee Horn in Englewood knows the feeling.

“He has called; He was online trying to get an appointment. but you can’t get through, ”said Horn.

Horn and Enid Kuperman are frustrated that non-Florida residents have gunfire in front of them. They don’t want to travel for their vaccine.

“I know they need their shots and I hope they did,” said Horn. “Why didn’t you get it where you live?”

“Everyone should have the opportunity,” said Kuperman. “It doesn’t matter if you’re a snow bird, everyone should have it. It’s just mistreated. “

You don’t have to live in Lee County to get the vaccine, nor do any of the other vaccination sites in southwest Florida.

“Either keep trying or check out alternative websites,” said Rahm. “I mean neighboring counties. I had taken care of it too.
