SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) –

As the roads are as bad as they are and rolling failures are to be expected across Texoma due to the severe winter weather, several hotels were fully occupied on Monday.

The Best Western Plus lost power on Monday at 2:15 am. After the restoration, the power went out at 6 a.m. and remained out until 10 a.m.

Front office manager Rihanna Humphries says she distributed blankets to keep guests warm.

“I’m very exhausted, this is about my fifth cup of coffee, so I just run a little,” said Humphries. “We keep people waiting in the lobby and try to stay warm.”

Humphries said all 77 of their rooms were booked for the evening as several Texomans were evicted from their homes because of the weather as temperatures remain in the single digits through Tuesday.

“We have some clothes and that’s it,” said Jermeka Briscoe, who lives at the Best Western, after her home in Denison was destroyed in a fire on Sunday.

“I think at some point when we get out of the shock because we still can’t believe this is happening,” said Briscoe.

Now that they are away from home for the next few nights at the Best Western courtesy of the Red Cross, she said her family is still getting used to the “shock” of what happened.

“We’re warm, but now it’s where we go to find another place,” Briscoe said.

The Best Western is asking guests to leave the taps dripping tonight and turn off the lights and TV by the bed when they’re not watching.

The hotel warns guests that they do not have a backup generator, so they cannot guarantee that they can stay on at all times.
