Initially, beach resorts like Phuket, Krabi and Phang-Nga will remain open before moving to certain areas in Krabi like Khlong Muang and Thap Khaek.

Thailand will reopen to incoming travelers on a four-stage schedule from October 2021 to January 2022. This was announced by the Thai Tourism Authority (TAT) on September 27 (Monday).. According to TAT, this schedule was approved by the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) “to revitalize the country’s tourism industry.”

“The CCSA has asked all affected government agencies to prepare for stages one through three of the reopening. In the meantime, foreign tourists can continue to visit the four pilot beach resorts under the existing conditions, ”adds TAT.

The schedule for each phase is as follows:

  • Pilot project – October 1st to 31st, 2021;
  • Phase One – November 1st to 30th, 2021;
  • Phase Two – December 1 to December 31, 2021 and
  • Phase three – from January 1, 2022.

Pilot project

During this phase, from October 1st to 31st, Thailand will keep these beach resorts open for travel: Phuket, Surat Thani’s Samui, Ko Pha-ngan, Ko Tao as well as Krabi and Phang-Nga. For those who don’t know, Krabi and Phang-Nga were last opened as part of Phukets in August 2021. opened 7 + 7 expansion programwhich enables fully vaccinated international travelers to spend seven days in Phuket and another seven days in Krabi, Phang-Nga or Surat Thani). While the other four resorts have been open since July 2021.

These resorts will be joined by two new areas in Krabi during this phase: Khlong Muang and Thap Khaek.

Phase one

From November 1st to 30th, the reopening will be extended to 10 more tourist destinations.

This includes all areas of Bangkok, Krabi and Phang-Nga, but certain areas in Buri Ram, Chiang Mai, Chon Buri, Loei, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Ranong. Travelers can pay attention to the following areas:

  • For Buri Ram: mueang only;
  • For Chiang Mai: only Mueang, Mae Rim, Mae Taeng and Doi Tao;
  • For Chon Buri: Pattaya, Bang Lamung, Na Jomtien and Sattahip only;
  • For Loei: Chiang Khan only;
  • For Phetchaburi: Cha-Am only;
  • For Prachuap Khiri Khan: Only Hua Hin and
  • For Ranong: Ko Phayam only.

Phase two

In the period from December 1 to December 31, the reopening will be extended to 20 additional provinces.

The provinces are: Ayutthaya, Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Narathiwat, Nong Khai, Pathum Thani, Phatthalung, Phetchabun, Phrae, Rayong, Samut Prakan, Songkhla, Sukhothai, Trang, Trat and Yala.

Phase three

From 2022, Thailand will reopen another 13 border provinces, including:

  • Bueng Kan;
  • Chanthaburi;
  • Kanchanaburi;
  • Mukdahan;
  • Nakhon Phanom;
  • Nan;
  • Ratchaburi;
  • In Kaeo;
  • Satun;
  • Surin;
  • So;
  • Ubon Ratchathani and
  • Udon Thani.

Aside from providing information on the areas and provinces involved in this reopening project, TAT said it will provide more details on Thailand’s reopening plans as soon as official information becomes available.
