Stanford, Kentucky (WTVQ) – A small Kentucky town wants people to visit and take photos.

On Wednesday, the City of Stamford unveiled a new mural on Main Street by local artist Kirby Stafford. The murals are inspired by the history of the city’s hospitality and celebrate its heritage as Kentucky’s second oldest city. Stanford was founded in 1775, 17 years before Kentucky officially became a state.

“I’ve lived in Stanford for 25 years and have been mayor for about nine months. It’s one of the friendliest cities in Kentucky, and many, if not American, have practiced since then. We’re older than Kentucky! “Said Mayor Dalton Miller.

Stanford’s latest addition is part of a wider range of tourism activities to attract visitors to towns along the Mountain Parkway and Red River Gorge areas. The mural is intended to attract visitors with its photo-worthy design.

“I welcome everyone who comes to Stanford. Check out the wonderful fortress we’re rebuilding and see what else happens. Dine at the Bluebird Cafe – it’s a great restaurant. Meet the friendliest people in the state! “Said Müller.

The unveiling ceremony was hosted by Wilderness Road Hospitality, whose mission is to revitalize downtown Stanford. The mural is next to the former county law firm on Main Street.
