Travel outside the country is still permitted based on the availability of resources that need to be activated to facilitate travel, says the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. James Fong.

When Dr. Responding to media inquiries last week, Fong said they initially put restrictions in place as travel outside the country required a lot of resources.

“If they go out we have to do tests before they leave, we have to make a plan for the police to open the border to them while there are some people who actually need to be monitored for their movement.” Said Dr. Fong.

“Before, when I said not to leave the country, the intent was to focus our resources back on the screening program, but as things moved on, I allowed people to leave.”

He said the ministry had received many inquiries and that he was allowing “according to the amount of resources we have to run out”.

Dr. Fong said they had limited travel outside of the country during the last four days of lockdown as resources focused on screening.

“Everything is resource based and travel outside the country would depend on it.”
