Quirk Hotel

Built in 1916 as a dry goods warehouse Quirk Hotel has an Italian Renaissance design and features limestone arches. The Quirk Gallery hosts exhibitions of creative work by established and emerging artists, and guests can find eye-catching jewelry and limited-edition designer works for sale at Quirk’s Boutique. The hotel is on West Broad Street, near some of Richmond’s most exciting art galleries, as well as a variety of restaurants, cafes and independent boutiques.

The Jefferson

After its opening in 1895, The Jefferson was an excellent example of the Beaux Arts style. At that time, exotic palm trees were imported from Central and South America as well as valuable antiques from abroad. Locals and guests also donated pet alligators to live in the marble pools at Palm Court. The last remaining alligator died in 1948.

Even today there are quirky references to the reptiles throughout the hotel, and luminaries like Franklin D. Roosevelt, Barack Obama, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley have all stayed at the Jefferson listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
