In December, just before the third lockdown, the Grand Mayfair townhouse opened in Half Moon Street, London. The 14-room Beaverbrook Townhouse will soon open on nearby Sloane Street. And in June, the four bedroom Lost Poet opens on Portobello Road in Notting Hill. All of them, in 19th century buildings with discreet signage, refer to themselves as “townhouses”, not hotels.

Andrew Stembridge, General Manager of Iconic Luxury Hotels Group, which owns Mayfair Townhouse, said, “Townhouses have an atmosphere of calm and tranquility that is very different from the relentless hustle and bustle of most urban hotels. They feel like apartment buildings and clubs, are in the most desirable parts of the city, but are set back from busy streets. ”
