CALHOUN COUNTY, MI – A man is about to walk a tightrope 60 meters above the ground to celebrate the expansion of the FireKeepers Casino Hotel.

Nik Wallenda, self-proclaimed “King of the High Ropes Course”, will walk more than 120 meters between the existing FireKeepers tower and the new tower to celebrate the opening of the new hotel, according to a press release.

He will walk his tightrope on August 16th. The opening ceremony for the free event begins at 5 p.m., with Wallenda’s walk around 5:45 p.m., the announcement said. Wallenda is known for walking the tightrope over the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls and Times Square.

The casino, operated by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi, opens the new eight-story tower. In June 2019, the construction of the hotel with 203 rooms began.

There will be a new high-limit gaming area for slots and table games, a lobby bar, a second Gapi Coffee and Sweets and a VIP area. The Nibi restaurant will move into the new tower with 125 seats, according to the announcement.

The walk will also be broadcast on the FireKeepers website and social media pages.
