In order to boost tourism in the Kashmir Valley, the government of Jammu and Kashmir has started the beautification work in Srinagar as part of the Smart City project.

Above the Jehangir Chowk, dazzling paintings are painted on overpass pillars depicting the culture and picturesque scenes from across the valley.

According to Rizwan Khurshid, project coordinator of the Srinagar Smart City project, the images of tourist attractions will attract the attention of new visitors and give tourism a boost.

“This project is for the city and these scenes are part of the pedestrian movement in the busy city. These paintings are likely to attract tourists to other places in the Union area as well,” said Khurshid.

Local residents also praised the move and said it would help promote tourism.

“This is a very good step as it will develop the city. They are also building a parking lot. I hope this will give tourism a boost. These things should stay that way in the future,” said a local resident named Jahangir Beig.

Faro Ahmad, another local resident, said, “We are glad that Srinagar is transforming into a smart city. It is getting more beautiful and more and more people can see it because there is a lot of traffic in this area.”
