JAMESTOWN, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Tourism Grant Executive Board met Thursday and approved several grants for projects and proposals in the area.

A grant application was first heard by Lynn Lambrecht, president of the Jamestown Downtown Association, on a planned Downtown Digital Guide & Tour operated by Be More Colorful. The organization had previously created a virtual tour that is currently available on the Jamestown Tourism website.

Lambrecht explained that this was a virtual tour focused on downtown Jamestown.

She indicated that a virtual tour option could be used in a number of ways to promote Jamestown.

According to Lambrecht, the virtual tour can later be updated with other functions.

Searle Swedlund, Executive Director, Tourism, stated that some of the work could be done by Jamestown Tourism to give them greater control over the project.

The board unanimously approved the proposed $ 17,200 to fund the project. Future plans will involve companies and encourage them to invest to be part of the virtual tour.

A request was later heard from Sonja Thierer with Fort Seward in Jamestown. The application was made to fund the Big Guns of the Old West event, which took place on July 25th and 26th as part of Buffalo Days.

She says they were looking for $ 975 to fund part of their event.

Swedlund adds that they have been working with the event for a number of years and are seeing it grow every year.

The board of directors approved the unanimous financing of the entire amount requested.

Finally, Amy Walters, Facility Manager of the Two Rivers Activity Center, reached out to the Grant Committee asking for funding for the opening of the Meidinger Splash Park Grand Opening on June 5th.

Walters says the one-day event will include family activities, vendors, entertainment, and more. The total budget is currently $ 10,000. More need to be added, along with the possibility of more activities.

The board unanimously approved the funding of the proposed $ 5,000.

In other tourism news, Swedlund says they are currently working on the summer planning and projects of Frontier Village.
