The Macau Government Tourism Bureau (MGTO) will expand its Travel Stimulation Program on May 1st to include sports travel activities. Companies or groups who organize or want to take part in a sporting event are supported.

The program will now encourage various types of travelers, institutions, and businesses to choose Macau as their incentive and business destination, and to organize events for incentive tourism, wedding tourism, student tourism, and sports tourism, including team building events, award nights, and local transport involved in the event.

Groups of 25 or more non-Macau participants and a minimum stay of 2 consecutive nights in Macau are required to apply.

The plan provides eligible applicants with appropriate support items including free Macau tourism information, Macau tour experiences, tourism product tickets, cultural or culinary experiences, depending on the number of participants.

The MGTO did not specify which sporting activities should be covered, with promotional materials citing the Macau Grand Prix as an example.

The program was first launched in 2009 to encourage the development of the local tourism industry for meetings and exhibitions.

The tourism authorities have this week the “Stay, dine and see Macau” The project aims to support the local tourism sector and offer residents hotel room discounts and local tours.
