SRINAGAR- Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary for Tourism, Culture, Youth Welfare and Sport convened an interactive meeting with representatives from the travel and hospitality industries on Monday to set the strategy for upcoming advertising campaigns and roadshows across the country.

The Secretary of Tourism, while expressing satisfaction with the influx of tourists into the valley, said the ministry’s and stakeholders’ continued efforts have borne fruit and as a result, prime destinations like Gulmarg and Srinagar are full of tourists.

He hoped this trend of tourist arrivals would continue and hopefully the tourism sector in J&K would return to normal sooner rather than later.

Talking about upcoming programs to attract both budget and high-end tourists, Sarmad Hafeez said the department is planning a series of road shows across the country and organizing several festivals here in the spring and summer.

He said the blooming of the colorful flowers in the tulip and mughal gardens draws large numbers of travelers in the spring and urged all departments concerned to coordinate better management of the upcoming festivals.

The Secretary of Tourism announced that the department will be organizing the Badamwari Festival, the Tulip Festival and the Houseboat Festival in the coming days and months to increase the attraction of tourists. He hoped that these festivals would be mega-events that would attract both locals and tourists and introduce tourists to the flora, culture, seasons and cuisine of the valley.

Tourism Deptt Gearing Up For Series Of Festivals, Roadshows

Sarmad Hafeez looked for suggestions and active participation of the tour operators for the successful implementation of these festivals and roadshows and together made the tourist activities unforgettable for visitors and interest groups.

On this occasion, tour operator representatives said they were pleased with the current flow of tourists into the valley and recognized the department’s role in revitalizing and promoting tourism after the Covid-19 pandemic.

They told the meeting that hotels in prime locations are full and the trend is expected to continue into spring and summer.

Previously, the tourism director of Kashmir, Dr. GN Itoo, the meeting on the various initiatives of the Kashmiri Tourism Directorate for the coming spring and summer season, including extensive promotional and promotional campaigns on multiple platforms.

In a separate meeting with the heads of various departments, the Secretary of Tourism reviewed the implementation of the upcoming festivals in the valley.

The Kashmiri Tourism Director, Dr. GN Ittoo, MD JKTDC, Nisar Ahmad Wani, MD SKICC, Javid Bakshi, Director Floriculture, Farooq Ahmad Rather, Director Handlooms and Crafts, Mehmood A Shah, CEOs of the Pahalgam and Gulmarg Development Agencies, Joint Director Information, Joint Director, Tourism in addition to deputy Directors and officers of the Tourism Department.

During the meeting, Secretary Tourism discussed the timing and various events to take place during the festivals. He asked all departments for coordination in order to make this festival a great success.

“The influx of tourists has increased”

Kashmiri tourism and related government departments will organize major festivals to give tremendous impetus to the Kashmiri tourism sector, confirmed Advisor Baseer Khan while completing the tourism department’s review meeting with officials from SKICC, Srinagar.

On that occasion, Advisor Baseer Khan informed officials present that the Tourism Department would be holding a number of mega-festivals, including the Tulip Festival, Badamwari Festival, Houseboat Festival, Pahalgam Festival and other activities, and instructed them to all Take action to make the experience of events very memorable.

He instructed officials to make hospitable arrangements to make things easier for tourists at the airport and to avoid the inconvenience caused by mismanagement.

Director Tourism announced that the influx of tourists has increased and the number will multiply as these festivals are held. He said all stakeholders were kept confidential and asked to use their resources effectively.

In the meantime, Advisor Khan issued strict instructions for facelifting roadsides from the airport to Srinagar and beautifying flyovers. The consultant was informed that there are 207 roadside facilities from various organizations along the national road and at tourist destinations. He also stressed the officials to make the lighting wells functional.
