Tourism entrepreneurs are given a crash course in Chinese

POKHARA: The Gandaki Province Chapter of the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) has started offering basic Chinese language courses to tourism businesses here in Pokhara.

The month-long language course training is being conducted for tourism entrepreneurs to have conversations with Chinese tourists visiting tourist attractions in Gandaki State.

The Secretary General of NATTA Gandaki Province, Kamala Giri, announced that a total of 42 tourism entrepreneurs are taking part in the training, which started on Monday.

Gandaki Province Assembly Member Bindu Kumar Thapa said during the opening of the training that the need of the hour is to revitalize the COVID-19 tourism sector in the country.

The tourism sector in Pokhara has seen Rs400 billion in investment and created up to 17,000 jobs, according to the Western Regional Hotel Association.

Among the overseas tourists visiting Pokhara, Indian and Chinese tourists were the most common prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Similarly, President of NATTA Gandaki Province, Sanjaya Kant Sigdel, expressed his confidence that the tourism sector would return to normal in the country hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also hoped that the training would be very useful for the tourism entrepreneurs in dealing with the Chinese tourists as China has been the second largest source market for the Nepalese tourism sector after India in recent years.

Pokhara was one of the most popular destinations in Nepal for Chinese tourists. RSS
