With Hundreds of properties in the Thompson-Nicola regional unit on evacuation orders, Tourism Kamloops is trying to raise funds for evacuees.

“Given the current forest fires in the area, the evacuees had to leave quickly without important items and their belongings,” said Tourism Kamloops.

People can donate to a mobile trailer that is set up in The Concession in Riverside Park today and tomorrow from 12pm to 8pm

In particular, Tourism Kamloops is looking for the following:

  • Non perishable foods
  • water
  • Towels, sheets, etc.
  • Animal feed
  • Toiletries (toothbrush and toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, deodorant, brushes and combs, razors, lotion, shower gel, shampoo, soap, sunscreen, etc.)
  • Clothing for all family members (new or in very good used condition)
  • Footwear
  • Baby supplies
  • Gift cards for gasoline, groceries, or other important items

If you have any questions about the Tourism Kamloops fundraiser, please contact Curt Appleby at 250-320-9705.

There are also multiple GoFundMe fundraising drives founded to raise funds for people affected by the Lytton Creek forest fire that decimated Lytton village on Wednesday.

People also coordinate offers of help with shelter, animals and transportation through the BC Wildfire and Flood Support Facebook group and a Facebook group founded by members of the Nlaka’pamux First Nation.

Evacuees from forest fires are encouraged to register at an emergency social service center or through the province’s online portal as soon as possible.

The Red Cross has also set up a toll-free family reunification line at 1-800-863-6582.
