KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 – The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) has declared June 13 to be Malaysia Poetry Day, celebrated every year by people, especially poets.

His Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said it was time that the literary community, especially the country’s poets, celebrated a day as Poetry Day to strengthen the field of poetry.

“The Ministry supports the development of excellence in poetry, so I hope that poets will continue to be the voice of the people, advocating and writing about the subject of the people in order to preserve the identity of the national culture,” said her speech at the opening of the proclamation of Malaysia Poetry Day was broadcast today on the Facebook account of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP).

“I believe that literary events, as one of the performing arts in the country, can be turned into an event that benefits ordinary people and indirectly mobilizes the domestic tourism industry,” she said.

Meanwhile, DBP General Director Datuk Abang Sallehuddin Abg Shokeran said in his speech at the event that the proclamation could celebrate poetry and poets and become a unifying point for the country’s poets.

“Poetry has been accepted for so long, has taken root, and is widespread and meaningful today. It is more pronounced when poets often write the themes of the communities and carry them in their works, ”he said.

In addition, the Malaysia Poetry Day logo and its theme song composed by Adiwangsa Sukma with lyrics by Siso Kopratasa were presented today.

In connection with Today’s Poetry Day, the program “Semarak Puisi” will be streamed at 9 pm on the official DBP Facebook. – Bernama
