Tuamoto – “We will support everything to make this happen.”

Josefa ‘Jo’ Tuamoto, CEO of Tourism Solomons, has welcomed the news that the Australian government is currently “in talks” with several South Pacific countries about the potential for a regional travel bubble to emerge.

His comments come in response to reports from Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who has revealed his hopes for a travel bubble with a handful of neighbors, including the Solomon Islands.

In an interview on Australian national radio earlier this week, Morrison said a future travel bubble could work under an agreement similar to the one Australia currently has with New Zealand.

“I hope we can make real progress soon,” said the prime minister, stating that he “would like to see a Pacific bubble”.

CEO Tuamoto welcomed the Prime Minister’s comments and he and his team would do everything possible to provide the support necessary to make the travel bubble a reality.

The local tourism industry needs to consult closely with the Department of Health and Medical Services and the oversight committee if a travel bubble is approved.

“In the meantime, and until this becomes a reality, Tourism Solomons will continue to focus on digital campaigns and promoting domestic tourism,” he said.

“In the current situation, these two factors are now an integral part of the five-point strategy announced last July, which aims in the short term to increase the domestic tourism figures of our country and thus increase the revenue-based opportunities for our struggling operators. “
