EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE / WYOU) Americans hoping to take a cruise vacation from a U.S. port are now one step closer.

The CDC has issued new guidelines designed to help ships sail again in US waters. The new guidelines include daily reporting of COVID-19 cases and routine testing of all crew members.

The next step includes training trips so the crews can test new restrictions on volunteers. The CDC closed the cruise industry a year ago because of the pandemic.

The industry has requested that ships resume cruising in July, but the CDC has not announced when cruising can resume.
