“We are excited to travel to see my grandchildren Joesph and Jason and daughter Jessica in Dover, New Jersey, and we are having a very quiet Christmas at home,” said Chris Tranchell.

Triple-A estimates that from December 23 to January 2, more than 109 million Americans will be traveling. 100 million of them will be behind the wheel.

Nancy Botting from Binghamton is on her way to Staten Island to visit her son, daughter-in-law and grandson.

“Ah, great, I don’t see her often so that’s special,” said Nancy Botting.

Others, like the Brees family, will drive a lot to visit families across New Jersey.

“We want to visit our daughter and her family and then visit our son tomorrow. He’s about an hour from your house,” said William Brees of Lake Ariel.

Travelers traveling eastbound on Interstate-80 tell Newswatch 16 that they are much more comfortable this year than they were last year, thanks to all of the COVID-19 resources at their disposal.

“Very small family group and I did the quick test the day before yesterday to be on the safe side, even though I have two shots and the booster,” said Botting. “But it doesn’t hurt to take the extra test just to be sure.”

“You know we are still trying to keep a family atmosphere up, but do this in smaller gatherings that you know and the most important thing I think is to let people know that you are still thinking of them and that you still love her, especially this season, “said Tranchell.
