We know our passengers have questions about how COVID-19 is affecting the airport and what SAT is doing to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The safety and well-being of our passengers and employees is our top priority.

To ensure that passengers feel safe during the trip, SAT has the Greater. Safer. Together. The pledge (in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines) is aimed at protecting the health and safety of employees and customers and building community trust.

What does SAT do to protect passengers and employees?

  • Face coverings – Everyone is required to wear face covering on the airport premises in accordance with federal law.
  • Frequent cleaning and disinfection – Frequent cleaning practices continue to be in place in all public spaces and toilets. and additional hand sanitizers have been installed throughout the airport.
  • Protective shields – Plastic signs are installed in high traffic areas, including ticket offices, retail stores and restaurants.
  • Social distancing – Signage and floor markings throughout the terminal provide information about a two-meter distance in public areas.
  • Reconfigured seats Furniture in gate areas, food courts and baggage claim will be removed or repositioned to allow social distancing.
  • Xenex LightStrike robots – SAT is the first airport in the world to have the Xenex LightStrike robots – The only ultraviolet (UV) room disinfection technology that has been shown to disable SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Social distancing efforts

Working with TSA, we’ve made some adjustments to the queues as you approach security to create more space between the passenger lines. To create extra space between passengers in front and behind you, we ask everyone to practice social distancing and spread out rather than crowd other passengers nearby. In addition, footprint markings were placed on the floor near ticket counters, information booths and other queue areas to indicate where people should stand.

Face masks are mandatory

The TSA requires the proper wearing of face masks under federal law.

Face masks must be worn at all times. Failure to comply will result in denied entry to the screening area and penalties.

Travel restrictions

The airport remains open and flights arrive and depart daily. However, airlines have drastically reduced their flight schedules, so we encourage passengers to check directly with their airline about flight status and face mask requirements.

Real ID enforcement

October 1st, 2020, deadline for REAL ID was postponed to October 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

TSA security procedures

Travelers should expect:

  • Keep your boarding passes in hand.
  • Separate food for x-ray examinations.
  • Pack cleverly (avoid prohibited items).
  • Practice social distancing.
  • All travelers must wear masks that cover both their mouth and nose.

Tips for healthy travelers

When traveling, especially overseas, be sure to take the following steps to be proactive, prepared, and protected when it comes to your health and the health of others.

Tips to help you stay healthy while traveling

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Dispose of your used handkerchief.
  • Cough or sneeze into your upper arm, not your hands.
  • Wash hands with soap and warm water for 20 seconds OR clean with alcohol-based hand cleaner.

Eating and shopping at SAT

Many SAT retail stores and restaurants have changed operations. Some have reduced their hours of operation, some are temporarily closed, and others remain open with an emphasis on more take-away options to cater to our passengers and staff who cannot buy food anywhere else. The airport has urged every retail store to adhere to social distancing.

SAT programs

  • The San Antonio International Airport Ambassador Program initiated a limited return of volunteers on June 16, 2020.
    • 23 ambassadors volunteered 100 hours in the first week during peak times.
    • Our Puppies and planes The therapy dog ​​program is suspended until further notice.
  • Individually wrapped masks are available free of charge and are distributed by SAT Ambassadors upon request.

Parking at SAT

For now, SATs garage parking space, Long Term and Short Term, are open. Long term garage pricing is $ 14 (4-24 hours).

Shuttle service

From Monday, April 6th, 2020 – the SAT shuttle buses to the Wirtschaftsgrün area will be temporarily suspended. Our partners in the Airport Security Park have agreed to transport all returning passengers to the Economy Green area.

When entering the yellow airport security car park, please inform the driver that you have parked in the airport’s Economy Green car park.

Valet parking

Valet parking is suspended until further notice.

Information on public parking spaces

If you cannot return to SAT as planned due to COVID-19 and have questions about your vehicle currently parked in a SAT parking lot, give us a call 210.207.3465 with the following information:

  • Surname
  • Phone number
  • Vehicle brand, model, color and license plate #
  • Parking lot where your vehicle is parked
  • Date parked
  • Original return date
  • New return date (if known)
  • Your question / concern

The answer will be given during normal business hours from Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
