Newcomer Vidanta Cruises is preparing to launch its cruise program early in 2022.

The Vidanta Elegant with 298 guests was originally scheduled to go into service at the end of 2019, which resulted in delays and then pushed back further by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, according to sources familiar with the situation, the luxury hotel operator is supposed to man the ship in anticipation of a start in the first quarter.

“Grupo Vidanta is excited to launch Mexico’s first luxury cruise line in 2022.” said the company in a statement. “The first ship, the Vidanta Elegant, is an adults-only ship that will feature 149 state rooms and suites, 12 restaurants and lounges, a spa and fitness center, nightly entertainment, a boutique and a pool on the upper deck.”

Grupo Vidanta acquired the ship, built in 1990, in 2017 after the sinking of the All Leisure Group, where the ship sailed as Voyager. The ship was completely renovated in Europe before relocating to the west coast of Mexico where it is scheduled to sail year round.
