BRONX, NY – The New Jersey City University women’s volleyball team, which took some big wins after a hard defeat at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) a few days ago, did just that, dominating their path to two wins in three sets in a tri-match , hosted by Lehman College on Saturday, September 25th. The Gothic Knights first defeated the hosts Lightning 3-0 (25-12, 25-7, 25-5) and then defeated the Maritime College in straight sets (25-20, 20-17, 20-17) as well.

The Gothic Knights (8-1) started with a very high pitch as they walked easily through Lehman (0-3) in the morning. A couple of seniors paved the way for the NJCU as mid-blockers Leah Seickendick (Hoboken, NJ / Hudson Catholic) and libero Krista Bartko (Edison, NJ / Edison) were extremely efficient. The former led all players with eight best kills and one error on nine hits (0.778 hit rate) to go with a solo block and a ditch. The latter combined her career best with a match high of 10 dig to go with four aces and four assists.

Second setter Sydney Lore (Marlton, NJ / Cherokee) also ended up on a beautiful line, leading all players with 21 assists with eight digs, five kills, and a match high with five aces. NJCU needed a little more umph on this one and still managed to beat the Privateers (2-4) in three sets. Freshman Outside Hitter Rachael Pharo (Manahawkin, NJ / Southern Regional) led the way in this case, scoring seven kills, three aces, five digs, and a pair of assists for a match high of 10.

Toledo led all players with nine kills and an error on 17 swings (.417) to leave with three assists and two digs. Seickendick was 7-for-10 on swings with an error (.600), as well as a block and a dig. Lore finished on her third double-double of the season and career after leading all players in assists (24) and digs (13). She also had three aces and two kills.
