State health officials said there were problems with vaccine distribution at the Danville Center shortly after it opened on March 15, but these have been resolved.

“Fluctuating registration numbers in the early stages of site operations have enabled walk-ins in some isolated cases, but this is no longer the case,” the departments said in the press release. “Every Virginia clinic has a schedule for how to administer unused doses at the end of the day so that eligible people are prioritized.”

Dr. Denise Bonds, director of the Blue Ridge Health District, said she expected the district to send invitations to the pre-registered people to make appointments. The invitations will be published in the next week for those in phases 1A and 1B.

“That doesn’t mean we’ll have vaccines next week, but you will know when your shot is available,” Bonds said, noting that appointments could be made weeks in the future. “We were told there would be more vaccines, but unfortunately it wasn’t.”

Bonds said people should use all available resources to get their vaccine. She found that numerous pharmacies are offering the shots, although many are outside the area.

“We encourage people to use all of the different options available to them to get a vaccine,” she said. “You may not be in our health district, but if you’re ready to go I think it’s worth it.”
