The West Fork Boys basketball team started off hot and never slowed down on Friday night as they defeated the Saint Ansgar Saints 75-38. West Fork won for the third time in a row after starting 2-0. The saints are 1-5.

“We played well,” said head coach Trent Trask. “We played offensively and defensively. One of our main focuses was getting better off both ends of the ground and I thought we did it.”

“It’s starting to grow together. We got off to a slow start to the season and we’re still growing. We’re looking forward to Osage Tuesday.”

It was anything but a slow start on Friday. The Warhawks quickly took a 19-2 lead before finally going into the second quarter at 25-11.

It was more similar in the second quarter when the two teams doubled their scores before half-time. That was fantastic for West Fork, but not so much for Saint Ansgar as they were halfway down 51:23.

At the 6:26 mark in the third quarter, Sage Suntken hit a three-hand for the Warhawks to give them an advantage of 35 points and trigger a running clock. From there, the game quickly continued as the Warhawks led into fourth place 68:32 before scooping the convincing victory.

“We just wanted to maintain the physicality and move on quickly,” said Reed Stonebreaker, his sophomore. “We had to make sure to limit the ball losses in the second half and continue to play quickly and physically.”

Stonebreaker was leading with 14 points, Suntken had 13, Edison Caspers contributed 12 and Cayde Eberling finished the game with 11. Jex Schutjer led Saint Ansgar with eight points.
