The Kamashi Meshi Project is helping small businesses affected by the pandemic with new menu items and Covid-19 safety:

In addition to UNESCO-recognized nature, travelers can try the Akita Shirakami area bounties and support small businesses affected by the pandemic through the Kamashi Meshi Project. The restaurants teamed up to create a series of menu items that matched criteria such as using over four local ingredients. In Akita dialect, Kamashi means “to mix”. Paired with Meshi (food), the hearty dishes are full of flavors that melt together and can be transformed with original toppings. The dishes feature luxurious ingredients like abalone, water shield, and a local beef called tsurugata gyu. All restaurants have adapted their spaces to ensure safe eating.
