SEATTLE–() – Today, Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) company, announced a global collaboration with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Inc. (NYSE: WH), the world’s largest Hotel franchise company to update its technology infrastructure and develop and deliver new guest services for its 21 hotel brands – including Days Inn, La Quinta, Microtel, Ramada, Super 8 and Wyndham. Moving to AWS allows Wyndham to improve business performance, reinvest approximately 45% of its reduced data center operating costs, and close additional physical data centers to meet its goal of running 90% of its infrastructure in the cloud. The announcement is part of Wyndham’s multi-year digital transformation and investment in technology that automates hotel reservations, empowers its franchisees by simplifying operations, and enhancing the guest experience at Wyndham hotels around the world.

Wyndham began working with AWS in 2018 when it was spun off from Wyndham Worldwide and needed to quickly build its own IT infrastructure. The hotel company migrated its central reservation system, property management system and data processing platform to AWS to make it easier to introduce new services for franchisees and guests while improving operational efficiency. Expanding its presence in the cloud will allow Wyndham to focus on growing its core hotel franchise business – seamlessly integrating new hotels into its network – while leveraging AWS’s proven global infrastructure to meet demand to cover where it occurs after the pandemic during the main tourist season in summer.

For example, Wyndham will use AWS Machine Learning to optimize over 90,000 daily rate changes across its 9,000 or so hotels to maximize occupancy rates, which vary based on factors such as location, weather, and time of year. Wyndham franchisees benefit by helping them find and offer the best rates, discounts, and rules of stay that are appropriate for their geographic market, brand, and hotel. In addition, Wyndham will use AWS to develop new digital services for guests to automate check-in and use AWS partners to provide tailored offers such as recommendations for local attractions, restaurants and entertainment during hotel stays.

During COVID-19, Wyndham leveraged AWS technologies to provide flexibility for franchisees and guests to help them navigate evolving security protocols. For example, Wyndham was able to launch a housekeeping application within a few weeks to provide hotels with an updated checklist of logs for cleaning staff. The app also gives franchisees the ability to generate “last rented” room reports to accommodate new guest requests to stay in rooms that have been vacant for more than 24 hours. Looking ahead, Wyndham will use AWS to stay agile and adapt to rapidly changing guest and market needs, with plans to use AWS machine learning to drive demand with greater personalization and more timely and relevant guest offerings.

“We are excited to expand our strategic relationship with AWS, the world’s leading and most comprehensive cloud provider, to create unique experiences for our guests and increase our operational efficiency on a global scale,” said Scott Strickland, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. “By moving the majority of our workloads to the cloud, Wyndham has been able to respond quickly to changing business conditions caused by COVID-19. The flexibility that we gained when switching to the cloud thanks to the extensive portfolio of cloud technologies from AWS helps us to expand our digital guest services and introduce new solutions and functions for our franchisees within a few days instead of months. ”

“The hospitality industry has seen a number of rapid changes recently, but using AWS gives Wyndham the insight and agility it needs to help its franchisees transform and transform their customer loyalty, service and business models To remain the industry leader, “said Greg Pearson, vice president, Worldwide Commercial Sales for Amazon Web Services, Inc.” Leveraging AWS’s proven operating experience, global infrastructure, and unparalleled portfolio of cloud capabilities, Wyndham has the ability to continue operations to scale globally and drive innovations through its digital channels. This collaboration will help Wyndham become an even more resilient company that can meet the ever-changing needs of customers and be prepared for the future. ”
