The Yap Visitors Bureau is using its pandemic downtime to improve its historical and cultural sites.
With travel to Yap nearly stalled, the office is using an FSM congressional grant to upgrade cultural and historical sites on the island to promote community-based tourism for the island.

Don Evans, general manager of the Yap Visitors Bureau, said that during the pandemic mitigation, Yap is using a $ 10,000 grant from the FSM government to promote “community-based” tourism.

“Community-based tourism involves local communities in the development of tourism, which is particularly important in Yap,” said Evans. “Cultural and historical sites, including dive sites, are privately owned. Community-based tourism, unlike mass tourism, is more sustainable and offers local residents environmentally friendly experiences and attractions.”
