So far, Yellowstone has had its busiest year recently. The park received over 658,000 visits from January to May, the most since 594,000 during that time in 2016.

The park is usually open to vehicles between mid-April and mid-May, but last year late March through most of May was closed due to the coronavirus. The park’s two entrances in Wyoming opened for the summer season on May 18 and the three entrances in Montana opened on June 1.

Tourism rebounded, and the park had its second busiest August and the busiest September and October on record.

The park ended 2020 with 3.8 million recreational visits, 5% less than 2019.
