Growing up in an Egyptian family, most women are told: “You can only travel if you are married” or “You can only wear this on your honeymoon”. Accordingly, many grow up looking forward to their honeymoon; a trip of a lifetime without any restrictions. In addition, many grooms even prefer not to host a wedding, save the money and travel with it.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions imposed worldwide over the past year and a half, many couples have been looking for alternatives to travel outside of Egypt. Although some of the best beaches in the world are located in Egypt, many couples never considered this before COVID.

The decision to go to Egypt for your honeymoon can be the best decision you can make. Not only can it be cheaper, but it can also give you the option to travel to more than one destination as many areas are usually close together.

To make your decision easier, we’ve put together a list of the best honeymoon destinations in Egypt, and which one (or two) to choose based on your preferences and desires. We’ve put tentative prices for each destination, but check the honeymoon packages while you do your research as they make a difference.

Sahl Hasheesh

This is usually the most popular option. With its “Adults Only” hotels, it is in the mood for a perfect honeymoon getaway. You will have multiple water activities, from snorkeling to diving to enjoying the glass boat; The water is extremely clear and offers a variety of colorful fish species and pretty corals. In addition to the fascinating beach view, there are night shows and mini concerts in the hotels that are specially made for couples with the best couple dance competitions. If you fancy an overnight stay – almost all hotels are all inclusive – breakfast, lunch and dinner, with unlimited snacks and soft drinks.

Sahl Hasheesh also has a corniche where couples can rent vintage cars or scooters and enjoy a ride for themselves. Then there is the option of taking separate speedboat excursions to spend a full day on an island with a campfire, barbecue and music for entertainment

The price range for a night at a hotel or resort in Sahl Hasheeh is approximately EGP 2,000-4,000 (USD 127-255).

Dahab

Located in South Sinai, Dahab is a great choice for couples who want to relax and enjoy the simple life. It’s calm, peaceful and you will feel isolated from the busy city. If you enjoy water sports, you can go scuba diving and snorkeling, and when you aren’t, bask in the company of your significant other on the shore and take in the breathtaking scenery. There are must-see destinations in Dahab itself: take a sunset camel excursion to the Blue Lagoon, stay at a Bedouin camp in Ras Abu Galum and watch the stars at night or take a dive in Dahab’s most famous dive site, the Blue Get.

The price range for a night in Dahab can start at an average of 600 EGP ($ 38) and go up to 1,500 EGP ($ 96), depending on amenities and ratings.

Siwa oasis

Amid countless palm trees and hot springs, Siwa Oasis is 500 miles from Cairo. It is famous for its salt lakes, natural springs and distinctive desert. Siwa Oasis is a unique honeymoon choice for those looking for an alternative experience. Even so, it is best to visit Siwa between October and April; then the weather is more pleasant.

The Cleopatra Bath is one of Siwa’s most popular landmarks; a natural spring that you can jump straight into or sit and relax in the shaded area next to it. The breathtakingly beautiful salt lakes of Siwa are another must-see. They should have health benefits and create an attractive landscape. Also visit Siwa’s luxurious Adrere Amellal eco-lodge: it’s handmade, has no electricity, and the rooms are softly lit by candlelight.

Siwa has resorts and lodges for an average of EGP 700 (USD 45) per night.

Aswan

Aswan is one of the best governorates in Egypt in my personal opinion. It has the friendliest and most hospitable people, and almost all of your trips in the city are across the Nile. The journey from one place to another is an experience in itself. While not a general recommendation for a honeymoon destination, the city has tons of Nile-view accommodations and is home to warm, helpful people. It is also home to countless historical sites. Aswan gives you the chance to experience the beauty of the Nile on a felucca without the noise and crowd that comes with it in busy cities like Cairo.

If your budget allows, Old Cataract is a one-of-a-kind experience! And if you’re on a budget, head to the five-star hotel for morning tea, take in the view, and take a tour of this charming 5-star masterpiece. If your honeymoon is in summer, avoid Aswan as the weather between June and September is too warm.

There are mid-range hotels from 700 EGP to 800 EGP (45 to 51 US dollars) per night, and cheap hotels and guest houses at lower prices. However, the more luxurious hotels like Sofitel Legend Old Cataract and Mövenpick have a higher price range.

El Guna

El Gouna has become one of the most popular travel destinations in Egypt in recent years. Although it is more expensive compared to other places in Egypt, it has its own charm and attractions. The streets, restaurants, hotels and even the lagoon make you feel like you’ve visited a completely different country. From beach parties and canoeing and kayaking tours to aerial tours and fishing, Gouna offers a wide range of activities. What’s more, the nightlife in Gouna is lively, with many night lounges and nightclubs. It’s also very close to Hurghada so you can take a day trip and come back.

The price range for a night in Gouna is between 1,500 EGP and 2,000 EGP (US $ 96 to US $ 127) in the summer when it is high season.

Hurghada

Hurghada is one of the oldest vacation and honeymoon destinations in Egypt, for both Egyptians and international tourists. If you’re a couple that doesn’t feel like diving, you can still experience the most beautiful corals in the Red Sea by taking a boat trip to the Giftun Islands and snorkeling among the best corals in the Red Sea. You can also enjoy a safari and a Bedouin dinner with an oriental show, along with a beach buggy ride to get there. The beaches of Hurghada are exceptional and at night you can stroll on Hurghada Marina Boulevard.

The price range for a night in Hurghada is between 2,700 and 3,000 EGP (172 to 191 US dollars), even during the high season.
