After the Delaware Hayes girls’ basketball team grabbed the momentum they never gave it back, combining steady shooting with solid defense en route to a one-sided 55:18 non-league win over the guest at Olentangy Berlin on Tuesday night.

Cami Elliott scored a pair of threes early on, but they made up the only points the Bears would score in the first quarter. The Pacers, who scored seven points in the first quarter from Samantha Toney, led 15-6 at the end of one and 23:10 until break.

Chloe Jeffers, Hayes’ top scorer, all but dumped the game in third position, scoring 17 of her top 27 points to help her team increase their lead to 42-15 with eight minutes remaining.

The Pacers then won the fourth, 13-3 to smooth the score.

Toney backed Jeffers with 15 points, while Sophia Midura took the win with seven points.

Elliott, who also hit a triple in the second quarter ahead of her two from the first quarter, led Berlin with nine points, while Jocelyn Franz made four chips.

Hayes (7-3) is next to return to the league to face hosts Dublin Scioto on Friday night in Dublin. Meanwhile, Berlin (1-8) will host Marysville. Both games are expected to start at 7:30 p.m.
