NASHVILLE (WSMV) – Individuals traveling to and from BNA may be required to have a negative COVID-19 test in order to fly anywhere in the country. It’s a mandate that Pete Buttigieg, Secretary of Transportation to President Biden, is considering, says the Biden administration.

“That way I know I’m not catching COVID from anyone,” said Temika Nanning, a passenger on the BNA airline. “It would save lives if it was negative.”

The CDC director said negative tests would help eradicate the spread of the virus on airlines, but there are still no plans or mandates put in place by the CDC.

Airlines executives fear that the mandate could affect bookings even more. They say these probably won’t rebound until more people are vaccinated.

People have raised concerns that the mandate could divert testing resources away from vulnerable communities. Travelers at BNA said they would support the mandate if tests were more readily available.

“At the moment I don’t think it’s realistic as a test takes three days to get it,” said traveler Debby Donahue. “But maybe in the future I’ll change my mind and say no.”
